Get access through Steam or a tester invitation
New Scam With Your Friends playtest signups are closed: existing applicants need access granted through Steam, while friends can seek an invitation from an approved tester. Once your Steam account has access, use it to install and launch the test; the optional Unlimited AI purchase does not provide playtest access or a game key.
Which access route applies to you?
Steam says new playtest signups closed after over 12,000 requests, with access being granted on a limited basis. If you already applied, your route is to receive access through Steam. An existing application and a granted place are different stages, so check whether your account actually has access before arranging a session with friends.
If you need an invitation, ask a friend who is already an approved tester. Approved testers have three invitations available for friends, providing a separate route while new signups are closed. Follow the official community and playtest updates when coordinating with your group, and make sure each person knows whether they are waiting for approval or seeking an invitation.

Install and launch your authorized playtest
- Open the official Scam With Your Friends Steam page to check the playtest signup notice. This is where Steam explains the closed signups and limited access.
- Check whether your existing application has received access through Steam. A grant of access is what lets the approved account proceed to the test build.
- Ask an approved tester for an invitation if you need the friend route. Each approved tester has three invitations available for friends.
- Sign in to the Steam account that received access or a valid invitation. The authorized playtest is tied to that account.
- Install the available playtest build through that Steam account after access is granted. This gives you the authorized test build to launch.
- Launch the installed playtest using the account with access. Keep a broadband internet connection available, as Steam lists it as a requirement.
What the optional Unlimited AI purchase includes
The optional $8 Unlimited AI purchase provides unlimited AI credits while the playtest is active. It explicitly excludes both a game key and playtest access, so it cannot replace Steam approval or a valid invitation. The purchase covers the purchaser's lobby, and access is linked to the purchaser's Steam account.
Use the Steam account you have already played with when linking it on the Unlimited AI page. Linking an account that has not played will not allow a purchase. Get into the test and play before considering this optional purchase, then decide whether the extra AI access suits your group's testing.

Playtest access, optional AI and the paid full game

If your goal is to play the full release, the separate playtest AI purchase is unnecessary. Unlimited AI is included in the full game. Treat the optional purchase as support and extra AI access during testing, and base your decision on whether you want that benefit while the playtest is active.
Resolve access and AI activation problems
If you cannot install the test, start by checking which Steam account received access or the invitation. That is the account tied to the authorized build. If you are still waiting for access, buying Unlimited AI will not resolve that gap, because the purchase excludes playtest entry.
If the Unlimited AI page says activation is taking longer than expected, follow its instruction to open a support ticket and include the displayed reference. The developer directs players to the official Discord for support tickets. You do not need to pay again to address that activation message.
